Helvoet is a high precision molder and finisher of engineered resins. The components of the fuel pump are made from highly engineered resins such as; 65% Glass & Mineral filled PPS as well as 80% Glass & Mineral filled Thermoset materials. Helvoet’s extensive R & D in this application has created a large materials library in regards to how various resins act and react in fuel over extended periods of time.

A fuel pumps consist of three basic parts. The first is the electrical connections to the engine and controllers. These parts hold the carbon brushes, capacitors, and other various smaller components. Common names of these parts are: brush cards & holders, end caps or outlet covers.
This area uses plastic molded parts. These parts have challenging dimensions such as a roundness of 0.050mm on the outside diameter for sealing, to shaft ID’s of +/- 0.010mm to reduce noise. Helvoet masters precision.
The armature
The armature (motor) is either a brush or brushless type component. These motors are made by various sub-contractors and in a lot of cases the motors are made by the Tier 1 supplier of the pump.
The fuel chamber, capabilities of the fuel pumpThe third section of the fuel pump is the fuel chamber. We distinguish the Inlet, the Impeller propelling the fuel through the pump and the Outlet. The impellers are always an engineered resin. Contamination comes from outside the fuel pump and if it passes through the filter can damage some plastics. Fuel is not everywhere as clean as in Europe or the US, and either aluminum or powdered metal is used to combat these.
The variation of a little as 1 micron, will influence the flow as much as 2 liters per hour. Helvoet therefore supplies these full chambers with total stack up clearances as low as 0.014mm! Flatness of components can be as low as 0.005mm, and the as-molded outside diameters can be less than +/- 0.030mm. With OEM’s demanding higher and higher capabilities, in order to better predict performance, these demanding tolerances are being met and exceeded by Helvoet!
